


This deep-dive into towing tools and techniques is an excellent way to build your knowledge and experience in this important group paddling skill. We’ll review methods for different types of tows — long, short, contact, anchor and more — with lots of practice applying them on the water. We can supply a tow belt if you don’t have one.

- Sunday April 12, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at an ocean location in Nanaimo.

Class Size & Fees
- $112/person ($100 for active paddling club members), taxes included.
- 2 students minimum; 6 students maximum.
Prerequisites
- Ideally you have been introduced to towing through other training in the past. It’s fine if you don’t remember everything. Please contact us if this is your first time learning about towing.
- Able to efficiently maneuver your kayak in all directions, including forward, backward and sideways.
- Comfortable with edging, bracing and small wind waves.
Required Equipment
- Your own sea kayak with full spray skirt, paddle and Transport-Canada required safety gear.
- Weather-appropriate wetsuit OR drysuit with appropriate layers underneath.
- Your own tow system, if you have one. We have loaners for the course if needed.
- Appropriate sun/wind/rain protection for the session.
- Change of warm, dry clothes in a dry bag, carried with you in your kayak.
- Water and snacks for the session, including a warm drink in a Thermos.
