Paddling Club Clinics – 2023 – Crosscurrents Kayak

Welcome members of Nanaimo Paddlers, SISKA and Cowichan Kayak & Canoe Club! Thanks for your interest in a clinic with Crosscurrents Kayak! Our 2023 clinics descriptions are below. Please contact us if you have any additional questions prior to registration.

To register for a clinic, use the form that follows the clinic descriptions (at the end of this page) to start the registration process. You will need to submit a separate form for each clinic you’d like to register for. After you submit your form, we will contact you to complete your registration and arrange payment by e-transfer.

2023 Clinic Descriptions

Paddling with Precision (3 hours)

Want to stop on a dime, paddle backwards with confidence, and turn with ease and accuracy? We’ll work through several exercises designed to improve your maneuverability on the water, so you can get from point A to point B more efficiently. Forward, reverse, stopping, sweep and draw strokes are all fair game here! Be prepared to challenge yourself and have fun!

Dates & Locations:
– April 26, 2023 – 1000 to 1300 @ Westwood Lake Park

Cost: $65/person, taxes included, payable by e-transfer.

Power & Momentum (2 hours)

Looking to enhance your paddling power? We’ll work through a number of exercises to break down a powerful forward stroke, isolating each component to understand its function and form. Then we’ll put it all together and practice regulating our paddling power to build and control our momentum.

Dates & Locations:
– May 7, 2023 – 1000 to 1200 @ Westwood Lake Park – CANCELLED

Cost: $65/person, taxes included, payable by e-transfer.

Underwater Composure (2 hours)

Increase your comfort and confidence underwater in your kayak! We’ll work through a number of shallow-water exercises designed to help you get used to being upside down in your kayak, increase the time you’re comfortable being submerged, and improve your ability to orient yourself and complete actions in your kayak underwater.
** Drysuit required for this clinic, with lots of warm layers underneath. We will be in the water/wet for the duration of the clinic!
** Bring an extra set of warm dry clothes in a drybag in case of leaks.
** Other optional but recommended equipment: goggles/swim mask, nose clips, earplugs, neoprene cap/surf hood, gloves.

– May 7, 2023 – 1330 to 1530 @ Westwood Lake Park
– May 17, 2023 – 1000 to 1200 @ Westwood Lake Park
– June 5, 2023 – 1000 to 1200 @ Westwood Lake Park

2023 Paddling Club Clinic Refund Policy:
Unfortunately we cannot offer refunds on sold clinic spots, unless there is someone on the waitlist who wishes to fill the spot, or unless you can find another paddling club member from either Nanaimo Paddlers or SISKA to fill your spot.
In the event that your clinic is cancelled due to weather, we will do our best to reschedule to another date and will offer you the option of a full refund.
